When can I sleep train?

You can sleep train a baby anytime after 18 weeks. It is
never too late.

Can I sleep train a premature baby?

Yes, you can sleep train a premature baby, but keep in mind
that they might not be developmentally ready at the typical 18 weeks. A good
rule of thumb is to add about half the number of weeks they were early to that
18-week mark. For example, if your baby was 10 weeks early, they might be ready
around 23 weeks (18 + 5).

Can I sleep train a baby with reflux?

Of course! However, I’d recommend seeing the doctor first.
We can definitely make some adjustments to help your baby feel more
comfortable, but if they need any medication, it's best to get that sorted
first so they're in the best possible state to learn a new skill.

Will my baby cry?

You will be teaching your baby something new and changing
their current routine. They are likely to protest a little however the aim to
have as minimal crying as possible. It is also important to recognise there are
different types of crying. We will not expect to hear any distressed crying, if
there is some crying it will be a protest cry for a want not a need. Please see method question below. We do not use the cry it out method and will encourage you to reassure your baby when upset. We aim for your child to cry as little as possible but it is more than likely your child will protest the change to begin with.

A good way to think about it is if your 1 year old was
wanting a 4th bar of chocolate you are going to say no. This is
because you know it is not healthy for your child to eat that much chocolate.
They will probably cry and protest but that does not mean you give in and give
it to them. You stay strong because you know staying health is a basic human
need and its necessary. This is the same as sleep. Being able to sleep
independently is a basic human need. If we cannot sleep we cannot survive. They
may want you to do it for them but you know if they can sleep independently
they use their brain to thrive at develop in other aspects of their life. They
can reach their full potential.

If there is minimal crying, it’s helpful to remember that it
won’t last long. They’re essentially protesting, like they’re shouting,
"Pick me up! This isn’t what we normally do!" They’re not in
distress—it’s more about what they want, not what they need.

How long will it take?

You’ll usually notice small changes within 24 hours and more
significant progress within 1-2 weeks.

It’s important to remember that while I’ll be working with
you for two weeks, that doesn’t mean sleep will be completely sorted in that
time. My goal is to help you become your child’s sleep expert. Sleep isn’t
always straightforward—there will be ups and downs in the first few years.
However, after working with me, you’ll be well-prepared to handle any bumps in
the road and get your child’s sleep back on track quickly and effectively.

What Methods are used?

This is where the ‘Lulla Bye Byes’ 1:1 packages are ideal,
as they’re tailored to both your needs and your baby’s.

You can choose a more gentle approach, which involves
starting in the room with your baby and gradually reducing the support you
provide each night, with the goal of eventually being able to leave the room
after putting them down awake. While this gentler method may take a little more
time, the outcome is the same.

If you would prefer a more accelerated approach, we can work
together to find the best starting point and move through the process at a
quicker pace.

With both approaches, we’ll adjust as needed, depending on
how you and your baby are responding. Nothing is set in stone, and most of the
time we’ll be making adjustments along the way to suit you and your baby. We
make adaptations because every child and parent is unique—there’s no
one-size-fits-all plan.
